The monastic complex at Dealu near TΓrgovi║te was one of the greatest cultural centres of the Middle Ages. From the original Greek monastic complex there remains only one church, founded by Radu the Great (1499-1501). Inside, a crypt contains the head of Prince Michael the Brave, executed in 1601. Under the command of this famous Romanian prince, the monastery secured the defence of TΓrgovi║te in 1595 in front of Sinan PashaÆs troops.
